WOMEN’S DIVISION

PLEASANT POINT BRANCH At a well attended meeting of the Pleasant Point branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs Ley presided. Mrs Ralph Roberts was elected a member. Mesdames Oliver, Roberts and Geaney were deputed to assist at the Friday market. The president gave a prize for most entries in the competitions for the ensuing year. It was decided to make a donation towards the expenses of the delegate to the Pan Pacific Conference.

The competitions resulted: —Best flower, Mrs Lyon 1, Miss Lyon 2; plate of pikelets, Mrs Lyon 1, Mrs Mcllwrick

It was decided that instead of having a birthday cake for the festival, the Division would, as in the past, make a donation to the orphanages towards Christmas cheer for the children.

As no late remits would be permitted this year for the provincial executive meeting in January, it was hoped that members would present any they have for discussion at the next meeting.

At the close of business, Mr Crosbie gave an interesting address on topics concerning both the Division and the Farmers’ Union. The speaker mentioned among other things, the great value to farmers’ sons of a correspendence course now available, and which gave them valuable assistance regarding the business aspect of a farmer’s life.

It was agreed that the Division work in the closest co-operation with the Farmers’ Union, in an endeavour to help to make it as powerful as other unions. It was also decided to challenge the Farmers’ Union to a debate in the near future, the subject to be arranged. The hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Gardner and Connell.
