WEDDINGS

WILCE —GRANDI The marriage of Frances Helen, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs George Grandi, Rathmore Street, and Frederick Cuthbert Lewis, only son of Mr F. J. Wilce, Rose Street, Waimate, and the late Mrs Wilce, took place at St. Mary’s Church, on Monday morning. The Ven. Archdeacon H. W. Monaghan performed the ceremony and Mr A. W. Vine was at the organ. The bride who was given away by her father, wore a frock of champagne tinted faille made in a becomingly simple style. Fashioned with long, close sleeves, a charming effect was given to the bodice by a high “halter” collar tied in a bow at the side, while in the skirt the back panel widened gracefully toward the hem to sweep into a long train. Her veil of embroidered silk net of the same tone as the frock was caught by a line of orange blossom at the back of the head, and she carried a bouquet of pale pink tulips. The train was carried by her small sister, Mildred, whose pretty Victorian frock was of oleander pink crepe de chine, made with a long frilly skirt and worn with a poke-bonnet. She had a posy of pink flowers. Her two sisters, Miss Mary Grandi and Miss Mabel Grandi, who attended as bridesmaids, were dressed alike in opal-green crepe satin. The frocks were made on the dull side of the fabric, and the soft cowl folds of the bodice were repeated in the sleeves, which fitted them from elbow to wrist. A sash from the sides tied in a bow at the back of the waist. The skirts fitted closely to widen into flaring line at knee-length. They wore picture hats of a darker green straw trimmed with pink flowers, and bouquets of shaded pink tulips and rhododendron buds were carried.

Mr Jack Flaherty, of Waimate, was best man, and Mr George Wilce, a cousin of the bridegroom, was groomsman. Mr J. Douglas assisted as usher. After the ceremony Mr and Mrs G. Grandi entertained at their home in Rathmore Street. Lilies of the valley and pale pink tulips centred the bridal table, and the scheme was completed with a wedding-bell.

Mrs Grandi wore a gown of black French marocain patterned with tiny white flowers with vest and jabot of white crepe. Her wide black straw hat was smartly trimmed with a swathe of black velvet, a spray of multi-coloured flowers giving colour relief. Mauveshaded flowers were in her bouquet Mrs Trezise, of Waimate, aunt of the bridegroom, wore an ensemble of black crepe de chene, and a black hat, and her bouquet was of red ranunculi. For travelling the bride wore an attractive frock of wine pique chevron, the collar and cuffs bordered with kilted trimmings. A plain tailored coat and a straw hat of the wine shade completed her outfit. WEBLEY—PHILIP A pretty evening wedding was celebrated recently at the Church of Christ, St. Albans, Christchurch, when Isabel Moir (Jill), eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Philip, Amberley, was married to Gordon Lynton Webley, youngest son of Mrs Brooks, Barbadoes Street, St. Albans. The ceremony was performed by Pastor J. Crawford, and Miss Edith Beer was organist. During the signing of the register, Miss Mae Blackmore sang “God Bless This House.”

The bride, who was escorted by her uncle, Mr J. Eddington, wore a model frock of ivory silk crinkle crepe. The scalloped bodice was attached to a ground length skirt, inset with godets, and the scalloped yoke was of radium lace to match the cuffs of the close fitting sleeves. The waist was finished with a sash tied in a large bow at the back. Her veil of embroidered silk net formed a train, and was held in place with strands of pearls. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies.

The bridesmaid. Miss Gwen Wilson, wore an ankle-length frock of lemon sprigged organdie over satin of the same shade. The bodice was finished with a shaned frill over the shoulders, similar frills forming the sleeves. The skirt, made fitting to the knees, was inset with frilled side panels, and the waist was defined with a sash and bow of lemon satin. Her wide-brimmed hat toned with her frock, and she carried a Victorian posy of cream primroses. Two little flower girls, Nancye Eddington, cousin of the bride, and Audrey Overend, wore frocks of apple green crinkled organdie. Frills trimmed the tight-fitting bodices and puffed leeves, and also formed the wide hems of their frocks. They wore silk Juliet caps to match their frocks, and carried posies of primroses. Mr John Mounsey acted as best man. The guests were later entertained at the Frascati, where they were received by the bride’s aunt, Mrs Eddington, and Mrs Brooks. Mrs Eddington’s frock was of vieux rose silk crinkle crepe, worn with a brown velour coat, and brown felt hat. Mrs Brooks wore a frock of black crepe de chene relieved with white, a black face cloth coat, and a hat of black baku straw. Both hostesses carried bouquets of freesias and maidenhair fern. For travelling the bride wore a smart frock of maize-coloured marocain, with a fur-trimmed coat of black face cloth, and a black pedal straw hat.
