LOST CAUSE

ERSE DYING OUT IN SPITE OF PROPAGANDA. DUBLIN. June 14. The Minister for Education. Mr T. Derrig, said in the Dail to-day that the Irish language was dying out in Irishspeaking districts, despite the efforts of schools elsewhere to promote its use. Thirty years ago, he said, pro-Irish propaganda had failed. The old people did not like Irish and would not interest the youngsters in it when the economic value of English was so evident. Mr Derrig outlined a scheme under which a small annual bonus would be paid to parents to induce them to speak Irish to their children, examinations being held before the money was paid.
