WIDOW LIBELLED

COURT SEQUEL TO 1916 IRISH RISING. DUBLIN. June 14. Damages of £750 for libel were awarded to-day to Mrs Sheehy-Skef-fington against the “Irish Catholic Herald.” The paper published an article recalling that she was editing “An Phobiacht,” a Republican newspaper in which she continually denounced the “infamous English Government.” It then asked whether she was receiving a pension from Britain for the murder of her husband in 1916. Mrs Sheehy-Skeffington, who claimed £SOOO damages, gave evidence that she visited the then Prime Minister (Mr Asquith) at Downing Street. He expressed sorrow at the tragedy and offered compensation, which she refused.
