MARITIME RELICS
HANDSOME GIFT TO THE NATION. NATIONAL MUSEUM ASSURED. British Official Wireless (Received March 27, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, March 26. The National Maritime Museum is to be established in a range of buildings at Greenwich, including “The Queens House.” The Prime Minister (Mr Ramsay Macdonald) informed the House of Commons that the Government had received from Sir James Caird, the generous offer of his magnificent collection of maritime relics, together with a promise to defray the cost amounting to £29,000 of putting the building in order for their reception. The contents of the Naval Museum would be transferred there, together with the handsome gifts made by Sir James Caird and others in anticipation of the establishment of the National Museum.
