WEDDING
WATKINS—McLEOD. The wedding took place recently at the Banks Street Methodist Church, Timaru, of Alice, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs Jas. McLeod, of Evans Street, Timaru, and Walter Thomas Watkins, Fairton, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Watkins, of Hook, South Canterbury. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. D. McArthur. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore an attractive frock of delphinium blue georgette. The bodice was made with lattice work yoke, long sleeves having gored effect at top, elbow puffs and gored cuffs. The skirt was cut on diagonal lines and flared at foot. She wore a wide brimmed hat of Ballibuntal straw becomingly finished with flowers on top and under the brim, and she carried a bouquet of sweet peas and freesias.
The bride was attended by her niece, Miss Joyce Watkins of Balclutha, as bridesmaid, who wore a dainty frock of primrose georgette made on simple lines, with a hat to match. Sweet peas and tulips formed her bouquet. Mr E. Bryant of Ashburton, was best man. A reception was afterwards held at the Caroline Bay Tea Rooms. Mrs McLeod received her guests wearing a lido blue ensemble. The frock of floral morocain was cut on princess lines with lace vestee. The semi-swag-ger coat of woollen basket weave was relieved with steel buttons. Her hat was of woven cire straw smartly trimmed with ribbon. She carried a bouquet of red anemones. The bridegroom’s mother was gowned in navy celanese and also carried red anemones. Later when Mr and Mrs Watkins left for the south, the bride was wearing a dress of sage green woollen georgette, the bodice finished with scarf collar, and box pleated sleeves and skirt and soft pastel felt hat in green to tone. She carried a navy tailored coat.
