WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
CAVE. At the October meeting of the Cave Women’s Institute, Miss Amyes presided. Mrs Sams and Mrs Verity were appointed to attend the half-yearly Federation meeting in Timaru. All members were asked to bring eggs for the Timaru orphanages to the November meeting. During the afternoon, Miss Westgarth gave a demonstration of thrift rug-making and had on display two beautiful rugs which were greatly admired. On the motion of Mrs W. Little a vote of thanks was passed to Miss Westgarth. A short musical programme was enjoyed and a game of musical parcels played. Mrs Seymour and Miss Fairbanks were the winners. There were good entries for the coloured needlework competition. Mrs Weavers was awarded first prize. Mrs Rich 2, and Miss Fairbanks 3. Mrs J Little was the winner of the quarterly butter competition, Mrs Rich being second and Mrs Moses third. Mrs W. Little was first for a bowl of narcissi and Miss Hogg 2.
