Mr M. F. Ledingham. of the staff o t the Timaru Boys' High School, who recently underwent an operation. Is making a good recovery. Colonel R. C. Allen. D. 5.0., a brother of Sir Stephen Allen, of Morrinsville, arrived by the Tamaroa from England, accompanied by his daughter and young son. Colonel Allen has been Home with his family for five years, and has come back to reside in New Zealand again. The Timaru Unemployment Committee at its meeting last night passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr H. E. Holland. The Leader of the Opposition, said the chairman (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite), had taken a great interest in unemployment matters in the Dominion. At last night's meeting of the Management Committee of the Rugby Union tlie chairman 'Mr J. O'Leary) referred to the fact that Mr J. Callanan. of Geraldine, one of South Canterbury's representative players, had left the district and spoke in glowing terms of his service to the team. It was agreed to send Mr Callanan a letter of congratulation on his promotion to the Police Force in Christchurch. At yesterday's meeting of the Board of Governors of the Timaru High Schools, the chairman (Mr S. D. Mason i made reference to the performances of B V. Wright at the New Zealand golf championships. Mr Mason said that Wright was a former pupil of the Boys' School, and he had done remarkably well in winning the New Zealand amateur championship. He had also been runner-up in the amateur foursomes championship.
