Messrs George J. Williamson, and E. R. Quin (Dunedin), and Mr Albert G. Grave tOamaru), are staying at the Grand. The Otago Hospital Board has appointed Dr. John Havelock North to the position of resident surgical officer, Dunedin Hospital. On his resignation from the staff of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., Dunedin, in order to take up a secretarial position in the city, Mr A. T. Francis was met by members of the staff and presented with a desk set. Mr B. Whitcombe, who has been manager of the Timaru branch of the Bank of New South Wales for the last three years, has been promoted to the management of the Bank’s New Plymouth branch. He will leave Timaru in about three weeks' time. Mr H. W. Tonkin, of Auckland, IS visiting England, and as a New Zealand delegate he attended the annual meeting of Druids at Hull. He ha* visited his native Comw»ll, and will return via Suez by the Strathnaver in October, calling at Gallipoli on the way. Bishop W. C. Sadlier, of Nelson, ha* Retired from the chairmanship of the executive of the Anglican Board of Missions. Bishop Sadlier has held the position of chairman since the board’* formation in 1919. The nqw chairman will be the Bishop of Walapu (the Rt. Rev. H. W. Williams). Reference to the death of Mr C. T. Hodges, of Waimate, was made at yesterday’s meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board byithe chairman (Mr G. T. Dawson). The chairman said that Mr Hodges had been elected a member of the Board at the last Municipal election, but unfortunately he had not been able to take his seat. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried in silence. High tributes were paid to Mr George A. Duncan of Hawera. at a distinguished gathering at Wellington yesterday, when he was presented with the New Zealand Society of Accountants gold medal for his thesis on the accounts, finance, costing and statistics of dairy factory companies. Among those present were the Acting Prim* Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coate*, who made the presentation, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister <n Defence, Messrs H. G. Dickie. W. J. Poison. R. A. 'Wright, M.’sP., and members of the Dairy Control Board.
