DISTRICT NURSE APPEAL

STRONG PUBLIC SUPPORT MORE THAN £IOO COLLECTED The District Nurse Fund will benefit by £llO/19/5 as a result of yesterday** street day. It was expected that the economy which is being practised by the public generally nowadays would be reflected in the amount of yesterday’s collection, but those in charge received a pleasant surprise when they opened the boxes at the end of the day. A willing band of collectors were out at an early hour and white badges quickly made their appearance on the street. In addition, a systematic tour of business premises was made and all who wished to support the appeal had ample opportunity of doing so. During the day numerous donations were sent in and these totalled £lO/17/-. Another source of revenue was a shop in town, where brisk business was don* The taking were made up as follows: £ s. d. Raymond, who was in charge, expressed gratification at the success of the appeal. With her were associated Mesdames G. J. Wallace and J. R. Snedden and Miss Mcllroy. Other helpers were Mesdames T, E. Holdgate, M. A. Raymond and Clissold. Mrs Dl McLennan and Sister Adams were in charge of the following band of collectors: —Mesdames T. W. Satterthwaite, R. E. Ayres, Little, Clissold. Robinson, Rusbridge, W. Harte, F. J. Schock, Cunningham; Misses K. Moore, D. Vine, N. Gabites, Crowley, Jowsey, Morton, B. Stevens, J. and B. McCann, Howden (2), Lillico, D. Rhodes and several nurses from the Timaru Hospital. A competition far a supper was won by Miss A. Gillingham. Donations are acknowledged as fallows:— fad. Mrs Geo.
