ATHLETICS.

SOUTH CANTERBURY AMATEUR CLUB. A meeting of the executive of the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club was held on Monday evening. Mr A J. Jackson occupied the chair, and Messrs Cameron, Mcßae, McArthur, Hurdley. EavStwood, Weston, and the secretary also were present. The sub-committee reported that it had decided upon the following handicap events for the Cup meeting:—loo yards ladies: men 75 yards, 220 yards, 880 yards, I mile, running; 1 mile walk; field events, high jump; long jump, hop step and jump, putting shot; cycling, |-mile, 1 mile 2 miles. It was agreed that the prizes be of the value of £1 Is for first and 10s for second in each event. It was reported that there was every likelihood of five or six of Canterbury’s best amateurs taking part in the Cup meeting, and it was decided to billet these competitors. Mr A. Hurdley was appointed to take charge of the billeting arrangements. The Committee was pleased to learn that .there was also a likelihood of Miss Martin, the lady x champion being a competitor. The question of recognition for winning championship events was fully discussed and the Committee has decided to award certificates. Mr C. W. Cameron brought up the question of recognising the runner-up for the big cup and offered to donate a trophy.—The Committee gratefully accepted Mr Cameron’s offer.

The secretary of the Caledonian Society notified that the Club was granted permission to hold their sports meeting on the Caledonian Grounds

The matter of drawing up the programme was referred to Mr A. Jackson and Mr E. D. Mcßae.

The following were appointed a committee to canvass for trophies:— Mr A. Jackson (convener)), Mr C. W. Cameron, Mr E. D. Mcßae, Mr E. Eastwood.

The following new members were elected, Mr Rutherford and Mr Aitken It was decided to appoint Mr A. Aitken a marksman for the evening meeting. The committee decided that the next evening meeting would decide the winners of both the Wallace Cup and the Mcßae Cup. Accounts to the value of £1 16s 9d were passed for payment.
