HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 22. The full amount claimed, £IOOO general damages and £59/19/6 special damages, was to-day awarded by a jury to George Hunter Smart, plumber, Wellington, in his action in the Supreme Court against Devina Elsie Aitken (owner) and John Aitken (driver) of a motor lorry involved in a collision with plaintiffs car. The accident occurred on December 22nd, and as a result Smart lost an eye. Counsel for defendants intimated that he would consider qioving for a new trial on the grounds that the damages were excessive.
