Disputes Threatened

CROWD JEER STARTER. United Press Association—By Electric Tel egr aph—Copyright (Received August 22, 5.5 p.m.) MONTREAL, August 21. Serious disputes threatened to disrupt the games to-day. With the sculler's nerves badly on edge due to the postponement of the races owing to bad weather, attempts officially to switch the courses did not meet with general satisfaction. It was rumoured that some of the contestants, possibly England and various Canadian entrants, would withdraw, even though the Burlingham course was only a few miles from the city. The matter was definitely fixed tonight. Another dispute arose in the Country Dash, which Williams won. The starter, Mr E. J. Holt, of England, ordered Elliott (New Zealand) out of the race on the second false break. The crowd jeered, and the heat was delayed for five • minutes, and Elliott was restored to his mark.

FOUR-OARED SCULLS. WIN FOR NEW ZEALAND. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 22, 5.5 p.m.) MONTREAL, August 21. At Hamilton, New Zealand won the four-oared sculls (with a coxswain), McGill University (Canada) second, and British Guiana third. New Zealand took the lead from the start, steadily pulling away from McGill University and British Guiana. The time was Bmins 2secs. Victory Worth Long Journey. Pearce, Australia’s wonder sculler, took the lead at the half-mile mark and nearing the finishing line was rowing easily and smoothly three lengths ahead of Beresford. Bradley was two lengths in the rear of Beresford, and Wright was completely outrowed. Pearce rowed up and down the course after the race, when his comment was: “I am very pleased to have won it. The victory was worth the long journey.” Field Events. In the putting the shot final, Hart (South Africa) was first, Howland (England) second and Herman (Canada) third. The 88 yards final resulted:—Hompson (England) 1, Thomas (England) 2, Wilson (Canada) 3. The discus throw resulted:—Hart (South Africa) 1, Herman (Canada) 2. Wrestling. The wrestling finals resulted: Welterweight—Prisetly (Canada) defeated Johnson (England); light heavyweight —Mclntyre (Canada) defeated Bacon (England). Boxing. The boxing finals resulted:—Flyweight—Smith (South Africa) defeated Pardoe (England); bantamweight— Nizler (England) defeated Kellar (Canada); lightweight—Rolland (Scotland) defeated Canzan (Canada); heavyweight—Stuart (England) defeated Skimming (Canada) on a technical knock-out. SCULLING. WIN FOR PEARCE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Cop.vrignt MONTREAL, August 21. Pearce of Australia wins the sculls.

BOWLING DOUBLES. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright MONTREAL, August 21. At Hamilton, in the bowling doubles New Zealand (McWhannell and Fielding) defeated South Africa (Hall and Giovenette), 21—13. England (Hills and Wright), beat Canada (Read and Moore), 17 —14. By the victory New Zealand has become the chief threat to the Mother Country for the doubles supremacy. In the rinks the scores were:—New Zealand 18, South Africa 19, Scotland 21, Canada 19. The English were crowned champions. Canada and South Africa tied for second place.

100 YARDS DASH. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright MONTREAL, August 21. Those who qualified for the 100 yards dash final on Saturday are:—Williams (Canada), Gerhardt (South Africa), Fitzpatrick (Canada), Legg (South Africa). Eliott (New Zealand), ran third to Page 1, Legg 2.
