HISTORIC EVENT IN BEGIUM.
Century Of Independence. FELICITATIONS FROM BRITAIN. British Official Wireless (Received July 22, 3.5 p.m.) RUGBY, July 22. Cardinal Bourne conducted the Te Deum at Westminster Cathedral, today, on the occasion of the centenary of Belgian independence. King George was represented by Lord Granard. The Belgian Ambassador and staff were present. The Prime Minister (Mr Ramsay Macdonald) to-day sent the Belgian Prime Minister the following telegram : “On the occasion of the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the independence of Belgium, I send your Excellency a message of friendly goodwill on behalf of His Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdofri. The people of this country, who have shared Belgium’s sorrows, wish also to share in her joys, and I am confident that I interpret the feelings of all classes of the British public, when I beg your Excellency to accept our heartiest good wishes for the continued happiness and prosperity of your great country.”
