AUSTRALIA'S COAL DISPUTE.
LACK OF OPTIMISM PREVAILS. (United Press Association—3y Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received April 7, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 7. The coal miners held the first of a batch of aggregate meetings in the northern fields to-day. There were large attendances, but a lack of optimism. At four centres the mine-owners’ compromise terms were rejected, but at Adamstown, the men, by a large majority, voted in favour of a return to work. It was stated by 'the miners’ officials that there are only sufficient funds in view to continue the strike pay on the present scale for six weeks, after which the miners will have to be content with half rates.
