The report for 1922 of the Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health shows the principal causes of death per thousand produced were— Respiratory diseases per 1000, 181, Diseases of heart circulation, 157. Nervous system, 101. Cancer, 96. Tuberculosis, 88. . Alimentary cancer, 52. Cancer alone is definitely and uniformly increasing. The deaths from it have risen from 520 per million in 1881 to 1215 in 1921. The tuberculosis death rate is steadily declining. The officer urges the amendment of the vaccination law on the grounds that the protection it gives cannot be disputed.
