In tlie House of Commons a Labour motion for the reduction of the estimates was defeated by 246 to 37. A number of Unionists abstained from voting. A motion by Sir Edward Carson for a reduction of the estimates was defeated by 240 to 129. AALAND ISLANDS DILUTE. LONDON, July 12. The Coiincil of the League of Nations is referring the Finnish—Swedish dispute in regard to the sovereignty of the Aaland Islands to a Commission of three international jurists, two nominated by the President of the League, for an advisory opinion. The Councii has appealed to the Swedish and Finnish Governments meanwhile to abstain from action likely to aggravate the situation. The Swedish and Finnish representatives have promised that such action slialL be avoided. EN GI ;ISH~GRICIv ET. Received 10.30 p.m., Jul v 13th LONDON.. July 13. Mr Pa.wley, who managed the last Australian visit, has offered the management of the forthcoming cricket tour, but declined on business grounds. In connection with the reunion celebrations, 70.000 people enthusiastically welcomed the King, Queen and Royal Family oil entering Schleswig. There were jubilations in several towns, and over the whole countryside. Young girls dressed in white sprinkled the road with red' roses. ARCHBISHOP MANNIX. NEW YORE:, July 12. Ifc was .announced in all the New Y_ork Catholic Churches that Archbishop Marinix arrives in New York on July 16 or 17. He will be the guest of Archbishop Hayes, and will celebrate pontifical mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral on July 18. He will lie tlie guest of honopr at- a demonstration in Madison Square Gardens the same night, and at' dinner at- the Hotel 'Astor on July 20. Mr de Valera and Archbishop Mannix will be the only speakers at the Madison Square demonstrations. LEAG UE OF NATIONS. WASHINGTON, July 10.
