TIMARU GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING,: The annual meeting of the Timaru Golf Oiub was held last night, when the president (Mr S. J. Gordon), presided over ten members. i The annual report, which was published yesterday, was taken as read, and balance sheet were adopted. The president regretted that so. few were present, and he went on tO:.expiess the hope that before the next annual meeting the war would be over, and th'alD they would have all their members who were fighting, back with, them once more. The president made feeling reference to the death of three of the. club members during the year ! who had given their lives for their country—Captain D. P. Eraser, Capr tain Norman March ant, and Private Mcßeath. He also referred to the loss, through death of a, valued member' of the club in the person of the late Mr K. Q. Turner. Referring to (the balance sheet Mr Gordon said that this showed them to be in a very satisfactory financial position. In 1915 they had sn overdraft of £147, in 1916 it stood at £GO 12s, while this year they had a credit balance of £4 ss. The incoming committee should endeavour tto enlarge the membership of the club. He congratulated, Mr A. L. Marshall and Ur. Gunn on winning the championships, and in conclusion thanked the committee for the assistance they had given him during the year, and complimented the: secretary (Mr. G. A. Simmers) on the able way he had conducted the affairs and looked after the finances of tllP club. : I Tha report and balance' sheet were adopted. - ' The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President. Mr S. J. Gordon; Vice-President, Mr W. D. Revell; Captain, Mr O. H: Gresson; Gommrtfdee,—Messrs Pinch, Scott, Neville and Macdonald; Auditor, Mr W. J. Cotterffl. On the motion of the president, a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the members, who had died during the year. It was decided that discharged soldiers should be admitted to all the privileges of the links, free of charge, ior a period not exceeding six months. Mr Cotterill suggested, 'as an aid to increasing their membership, that the entrance fee should be abolished during the period of the war. This had been done with great success in Christchurch. Id was decided to recommend the committee to abolish' the entrance fee as suggested. ' A hearty vote >of thanks was passed to the donors of trophies during the year. The outgoing officers of the club were also thanked' for ./their services during!', last ycar, : and a hearty vote of thanks, was passed to the ladies for their assistance. . . .With very complimentary references' the meeting, endeavoured to press upon Mr Simmers a cheque in appreciation o6 all the work he had done for the club, but, Mr. Simmers declined to accept anything.. Under these circumstances the meeting unanimously decided, to make Mr Simmers; an honorary member of the club. !'
