• AMENDING THE SYLLABUS. (Per Press Association.) rru „• .•"AtrCKLAND, March 29. i I Education stated today that a, -;■ complete re-modelling of tne.syllabus and the system of inspection of schools is well in hand, and will he ready for publication, probably in October. In tho meantime a number of amendments to the present regulations would be gazetted this week, not affecting the work for this yoar. The chief alterations provide for greater emphasis on such essential matters as accuracy of sp«-;"b. intelligent rending, .iccurac'v in artihmetic, and sound knowledge of history, nature study, and geography. Provision is also being made for necessary concessions to girls to enable them to dovote more attention to net-dlpwork and domestic science, rw-licvs who rlppire to be rerrnrded as efficient were being enjoinc-d to pay special attention to the physical weJl"lping of the children and take an active part in their physical training, in cooperation With the medical inspectors, school wirsuSj and physical instructors, in record to the inspection of schools it will bo provided that more time be devoted to the smaller schools and to experienced teachers.
