The "Cologne Gazette" states that Portugal has sold the Island of Macao, to Japan. [The Portuguese settlement of Macao on an island at the mouth of the Canton river, has an area of 4J square miles and a "population of 75,000, of whom less than 5000 are Port"gueso, and the rest mostly Chinese. The commerce of Macao has dwindled since the risie of Hong Kong.]
