! Dr. R-owley, Timaru, has received word that ho lias obtained a Lieutenant's Commission in the Dental Corps and leaves for "Wellington on Friday to take np his duties in Featherston Camp. The Wellington "Evening Post" states that Trooper C. T. Hanson, of the 25tli Reinforcements, was removed to a. Wellington private hospital on Monday morning in order to undergo an internal operation. Trooper Hanson is tho owner of tho Waiourou station of 90.000 acres. Mr Henry Davis, ex-Ma-voi" of AshIrarton, who was well known in Timaru, died oil Sunday, from septic poison in an injured foot. He was 61 years of ago Ho came, to New Zealand a hoy of six in 1862. and had lived in Ashburton since ISS9. He leaves a wirlew, one son Mr T? chert Davis, of A«hlmrton, and three daughters! (Mrs A. It is announced in "The Times" of January "27th that Mr John McCorrnack, "the Irish tenor, has renounced his allegiance to King George and declared his intention of becoming a citizen of tho United States. The declaration states that he was born in AtMono, in Ireland, in 1884, and that he-arrived in the United States in 1904. ,
