WESTPORT COLLIERS.
DENNISTON MINE IDLE. Peb Phess -^sootATioar. '■y. . -WESTPORT, Oct. 3. Work is completely suspended in all* sections of the Wescport Coal Company's Denniston collier to-day. ' The trouble is due to the suspension on Thursday morning of. a trucker in the Cascade ■ section on a charge of using obscene, language to an official of the Company. It is said that the young man does not deny the use of the words I alleged, but says he was unduly provoked.
Yesterday morning the truckers in tlie Cascade section refused to work, throwing that section of the mine idle. A meeting of the Union was held last night at which the position was discussed. It is understood that it was held that the trucker was victimised. A demand was served on the management for the trucker's reinstatement. This was refused, bo no men went into the. mine this morning. There is hope of an early settlement. Apart, however, from the present trouble arising from - trifling causes, there is a good deal of unrest at the Denniston coEiery. Industrial agreements were recently arrancred between the representatives of the coal eom-oan-ies and- delegates from the unions. These were approved by the Granity and Stockton mines, but at Denniston the agreement was rejected and work has been proceeding Tinder a» old agreement. !
