SALVAGE WORK IN HAND. Pes Pbess Association. DUNEDIN, Oct. 3. An inquiry into the stranding of the Tyrone wiM be opened on Tuesday. It is understood that the owners of the Tyrone (the Union Steam / Ship Company) hare formally abandoned thf> vessel td Lloyd's. and +hat Lloyd's .people will conduce the salvage operations on beha'f - of the underwriters, the Union Company lending all the assistance it can. It is understood that it will take thive days to get all the.gear round to the steamer and have everything ready for an attempt at refloating. The insurances on the hull are held in England, while New Zealand companies carry t*>e pri"Hr>al rV>ks othe "cargo. It is said that the vessels insured for £75,0tf0, and that the 200 D tons of .cargo on hoard are insured for close on £20,000.
NO RESULTS YESTERDAY. DUNEDIN, Oct. 3. The tug Terawhiti was unable to make -further progress with the salvage* operations to-day, but will make another attempt to-morrow. The diver continued his examination, but there is nothing fresh to report.
