PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —It is with, great reluctance that I to trespass in jour paper with regard to the Presbyterian Cliurc hue St. Andrews and tlie Tiniaru Presbytery. i should like ti) know win- no member oi the Presbytery thought Jit and proper to correct the reports wh.cii appear below if thoy were incorrect and not m accordance with their resolution and intentions, instead of waiting tdl -November 4th to produce a copy of their resolution at the meeting of managers, and there to state that they were not responsible for the Press l'cpiiris. It seetns wonderfully strange that they should havo ejected tlie late managers to have taken Mr Chappie's resignation ;is official from tlie Press when they are unwilling xo accept tIM report as regards themselves, i.t is l.itle wonder tlio churches are so poorly attended when our highest chureli officials accept praises for bejntr so charitable and then denute the work.
"Tima.ru Herald," l-lth Sept.— "Future arrangements.—Her. IMr Morrison was appointed Moderator of the St. Andrews charge, during the vacancy, it being decided that .the charge should be declared vac-ant on Sunday ja-ext. Arrangements were made for filling the preaching appointments in the Parish during the next three months, and Messrs M, Smith and T. Brown were appointed aecessors."
"Timaru Post," 13tli Sept.— <: Tlie Presbytery resolved tlint the St. Andrews Church should continue* to pay Sir Chappie's st.'peiid for three months to come; that ?.ir Morrison should act as Moderator of the clnirch for that period; and tliat pending the appointment of another minister to the charge, the pulpit should "bo supplied in turn by members of the Presbytery."
The "Outlook/' 20th Sept.—''His felloiv ministers however have made arrangements to carry on the services at St. Aiidreivs Church gratuitously on successive Sundays, in order that the congregation may be able to pay Mr Chappie's stipend for three months following his resignation. Whatever Mr Chappie mav feel called upon to say about the Christian doctrines of the Presbytery, it is hardly open to him to reflect further on its Christian charity."—l am, etc., SUPPORTER.
