AGGRAVATED ASSAULT.

CHILD CRUELLY TREATED. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, Feb. 22. At the Polio Court, Arthur Edward Sell and Marguerite Sell were charged with committing an aggravated assault on a child named Allen Roger Tait, son of the female defendant, aged three years and four months. The child was a fearful mass of bruises from head to foot. The doctor said that the child had been beaten in a most cruel and disgraceful manner, and could not have stood it much longer. In giving judgment, the Bench said that the perpetrators should be Hog.Ted . till black and blue, but he did not want to send a young couple to gaol. He fined the accused £5 each or three months' imprisonment.
