Per Press Association
WELLINGTON. Februr.rv 2L
Mr Fulton, the chief rilve expert, hay been inspecting the flax mills in the Auckland district and supervising the working of the grading stores. He thinks that the export this year will be about the .sune as last year—three-quarters of ;: million. There may be a slight falling off in the quantity of main fiore exported this year but there will be a considerable addition to the volume of tow exported. Formerly tow wc*. burned: how it fetches from'£s 'to £7 a ton. He states that few of the workings in the north were being conducted as he would like to see them. Millers were greatly in 'need of instruction and Ke.was disappointed at the large.quantity-of inferior stuff that came into stores at Auckland. Thers -was insufficient care in stripping ,ind not half enough time.or attention was devoted, to cleaning. Much of the .fielding was badly performed, large areas being completely "destroyed through cutting the blades too low and grubbing.
