OHRISTCHUROH, December 14. The secretary to the Canterbury Jockey Club has communicated the following to the local papers : — The Canterbury Jockey Club having made an exhaustive enquiry into the allegation that Matthew Barnett offered Perry White £1000 to pull Chasseur in the Stewards Handicap at the club's spring meeting, is. of opinion " that the contradictory evidence is insufficient to warrant the disqualification of Barnett or White." As it was elicited in evidence that certain trainers and jockeys have been in the habit of accepting presents from bookmakers the Canterbury Jockey Club hereby warns them that such practices will be considered a serious i objection to the renewal of their licenses.
