ASSESSMENT COURT.

A sitting of the Court for the Borough of Timaru was held before Josoph Beswick, Esq., Judge, at tho Courthouse yesterday. Mr E. H. Lough, Town Clerk, appeared to sustain his valuations. A number of ratepayers had lodged objections, but did not appear when their names were called. Tho following other cases were dealt with : — Thomas Collins, for whom Mr S. Davies appeared, asked for a reduction on the assessed value of two houses m North street now assessed at £40 v year. — Reduced to £27. John Crawford, through Mr Lynch, applied for a reduction on a house on Main Boad, assessed at £30 a year. The Judge reduced it to £2i. Three cottages belonging to the same on LeCren's Terrace, assessed at £61, were reduced to £12 a year ; and thrco cottages m Theodocio street, assessed at £50 a year, to £43. Thomas O'Drisco I ', for whom Mr Lynch appeared, objected to the rate at which his hotel and a cottage m Latter street wore valued, £305. No roduction was mado. G. Pearson, whose two cottages on Bench Boad were assessed at £10 a year, had the value reduced to £30. On tho application of T. Williams the Phoenix Brewery and houses m Brown street, assessed at £300, wore reduced to £200. The Court then rose.
