SHOCKING TREATMENT OF A MAORI WOMAN.
(By Telegkaph.) Auckland, Oct. 23. Telegrams from Rotorua state that an old Maori woman named Kotu Kotoe was shamefully beaten and kicked about by her nephew, Are Karate*, of Wairoa, Lake Tarawera, until one of her hips was put out of joint. Slir was not quite sound m mind, and was m the habit of wandering about the bush for days by herself, whicli caused her people much trouble, and Ihe reason given for her nephew kicking her about the legs was to prevent her wandering about. Her death is daily oxpected. She is without covering and m great agony, her leg being twisted right round.
