WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Atthe Council meeting held on the 25th jnst., there were present—His Worship tha Mayor, and Councillors Sinclair, Sellers, Cameron, Qascoyne, Freeman, and Goldsmith, and the clerk, Mr A. Parker. MINDTBB AND COBBESFO2JDBNOB. The minutes of last meeting were confirmed, and correspondence received since last was read. SASITABT. Mr Goitt, Inspector of Nuisances,' reported favorably on the tanitary condition of the Borough, with the exception of a nuisance caused by Mr Sherwin's extensive piggery. He also requested that a bar be placed on the telegraph pole, at Manchester's corner, to enable the person lighting the lamp attachod thereto to fix his ladder. ■ bbsolutioks. The following resolutions wero passed by the Council: — "That the necessary steps be taken to obtain tho Crown grant of reserve .No. 2428." "That the request of the Inspector of Nuitances re bar for telegraph pole, be granted, providing no damage be done to the same." " That Mr Sherwin be directed, by un order m writing under the hand of the Mayor, to •bate the nuisance existing on his premises through keeping pig?, witbin twenty-four hours from receipt of the notice, or proceedings will be taten under clause 237 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1876." . " That the accounts as presented bi pissed for payment —amount £50 Ot Bd." " That tenders be advertised foe the eupply of kerosene of the best quality ; tenderers to state brands; tenders to be m on the 2nd of May next." MISCELLANEOUS. A discussion took place at to the appointment of a collector of the dog tax; also, as to the abatement of trespass of cattle on the roads. The Mayor stated that several ratepayers had complained of the frequency of cattle trespassing on the roads. Councillor Freeman was of opinion that the Ranger should look after the treepaaa of cattle, and if any ratepayer was aggrieved by trespass and the Banger not present, such ratepayer could drive the trespassing cattle to the Pound. It was resolved—"That the Clerk be appointed Registrar of Dogs under the Dog Registration Act 1880, m place of Mr E. H. Gibbon, resigned, and also to ccc that all dogs m the Borough be registered, and that ho be granted a commission at the rate of 10 per cent on all monies received for same." Resolved —" That tender! for permanent levels b« held over for the present." The Mayor said the firm of Manchester Bros, and Goldsmith objected to pay their share of the asphalting m front of their store. Councillor Gascoyne was of opinion that the firm was fairly liable to pay their share of the cost. The work had been passed by the Council's Engineer, and the contractor paid by the Council. It was decided that the matter stand over for further consideration. The Clerk was instructed to retake possession of sections leased to parties who bad broken their covenant. The meeting then closed. ,
