MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held m the Road Board office, Peel Forest, on Friday, 22nd inst. HBItBEBS FBESBNT. The Hon. J. B. A. Aclarid, Messrs.Tripp and Heney. MISUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. TEUDBBS. The following tenders for the various works were accepted. ' No. 12 contract, forming at Sherwood Downs—Cornelius Flynn, £80 j. No. 13, planting 50 acres at Sherwood Downs—M. Fitzgerald, £300 j No. 14, forming on Kakabu and Burke'a Bass road—deferred j No. 15, fencirig at Raincliff—Joseph White and Co., £27 5s ; No. 16, building cottage at Rsincliff —Michael Lynch, £158 10s ; No. 17, widening Clayton bridle track—Patrick Howe, £49 ; No. 18, fencing gravel reserves—James Proudfoot, 17s 9d per chain ; No. 19, ploughing gravel reserves—Michael O'Brien, 12j per acre for breaking up, 6s 6d per acre for cross ploughing ; No. 20, forming Mount Peel road —Michael Sbeehan, £50; No. 21, forming at Orari Gorge—Daniel Gulden, £9 15s; No. 22, repairing road from Rangitatn bridge to Boyd's cu!ting—Patrick Faull, £8 9s ; No. 23, repairing the road from Boyd's cutting to Peel Forest road—James Proudfoot, £10. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered: — From the Public Works office, Wellington, ■tating that the plans of the read m the Orari Gorge, sent to the Provincial Public Works office m 1875 cannot be found. _ Tho Clerk was directed to reply, stating that the plans having been lost m the Government office, will they direct any surveyor now m the Government employ m ihe neighborhood to pick up the survey, as the same was a considerable rxpense to the Board. From the Post-office and Telegraph Department, Wellington, m reference to the change of the name of the South Rangitala station, stating that the change was made to avoid the oonfusion which would result from a townBhip, a district, and a river, bearing tho same title. The Clerk was directed to acknowledge the receipt of the same, and ask bow this can apply to the caee of the South Bangitata. The Board would wish to be informed what is the district referred to, and to state that at present confusion it arising from the action of the Government. From tb» Commissioner of Crown Lands, Cbristchurch, m reference to tho Board's application for a reserve near 'Fairlie Creek for planting purposes. The Clerk was directed to reply and inform the Commissioner of Crown Lands that it is the intention of the Board to plant 33 acres within the next three years, the remaining part to be used for the present m keeping teams employed for road purposes with a view to further planting m the future. From the Ashburton County Council, acknowledging receipt of the Board's resolution re Bangitata trafßo bridge. From the Geratdine County Council, forwarding copy of a resolution re alteration of name of South Kangiuta railway station. From Mr A. McColl, asking the Board to improve the cutting m the RmgiUta terrace known as Bethune's cutting. It was ordered to be done. From Messrs Walker and Clogsloun, asking tbe Board to widen the bridle track to Clayton. The Clerk was directed to inform Meiers Walkrr and Clozatoun that a contract has been let for the work. From Mr Joseph Turner, requesting the Board to form the three roads leading to lection 3968. Resolved—"That tenden be invited for forming a road giving access to the section." From Mr James Wilson, requesting leave bf absence from tbe meeting of the Board. Ihe, request was granted. Mr Thomas BUw had an interview with the Board requesting to bave the road leading over the Orari Downs improved. - Resolved—"That tenders bo invited for tbe work." GOBSB. Basolved—" That notice be given to persons allowing gone to grow on roads adjoining their land to have the same grubbed up, otherwise the Board will have the work dono at the owners' 1 expense."
HEW YTOBKS. Resolved — " Hint tenders be invited for the ■following works :— (1) Improving Belhiine's cutting j (2) ehineling F«rd's road j (3) breaking itones and blinding road from Tripp's cutting to Sowerhy's ; (4) blinding road near Mr J ripp's ; (5) cutting m Peel Forest ; (6) improving the road over Orari Downs ; (7) forming the road past Clayton station." ACCOT7NT3. Accounts to the amount of £1138 5s were passed for payment. The Board tlicn adjourned.
