The Presidential contest is really confined to Greely and Grant, the latter being sure to be i-e-elected. At the late Louisville Democratic Convention, Charles o 'Conor of New York was nominated by acclamation, but declined to stand. Colonel Scotfc, known as the Railroad King, has visited the Pacific Coast and made arrangements for the commencement of a new overland railroad. The Colonial traveller of not a very . distant future, will thus have a choice of two railroads across Continent. The diamond-fields of Arizona are attracting much attention, and there is no doubt of the existence of rubies, garnets and diamonds m that locality. The Pacific mail steamer Brenville, from New York to Aspinwall, was burnt at sea, thirty-four passengers and the crew are unaccounted for. The Pacific mail steamer America, was burned m the harbor of Yokolioma, m Japan, nineteen lives were lost. The loss is 3,000,000 dollars. The American steamer Metis was wrecked off Connecticut, 22 livea were lost.
