The Emperor of Russia and the Grand Duke Vladimir arrived at Berlin on Sept 5. They were met by- the Emperor, Prince Frederick William, and a large number of other German Princes and Ministers, with Chancellor Bismarck at their head. The most famous generals of the army, and chief dignitaries of the Imperial Court were also present. The Czar, cm alighting, saluted and embraced the Emperor m the most cordial manner. The two Emperors then entered the same carriage, and passed slowly through the streets amid the cheers of a:j immense multitude. The Imperial carriage stopped at the Russian Embassy, into which the Emperor Alexander was conducted when he was visited by the Empress Augusta, and the Princess Victoria, wife of the Crown Prince. Later m the day the Czar proceeded to the Imperial Court, and was received and. entertained by the Emperor William and his Court. After making quite a long visit, the Czar returned to the Embassy. The Emperor of Austria met with a most enthusiastic reception from the people m his progress through Germany. He arrived at Berlin on the evening of September Gth, when, precisely the same ceremonies were accorded •as to the Czar. As the two German Emperors rode side by side through the streets, popular enthusiasm was even greater than the day before. In the evening, a Court dinner was given at the Imperial Palace. The" Emperor William gave the toast "our guests." The Emperor of Austria proposed the " health of the German Emperor and his family." The Czar's toast was "to the valiant Germans." The Festivities terminated m a monster torchlight procession, and the playing of the Prussian tattoo by eleven hundred and twenty-four musicians. The Czar made Prince Frederick Charles and Prince Frederick Henry and Prince Albert, Field Marshals of the Russian army. Prince Gortschakof had a long conference with Bismarck. Sei'ious riots have occurred m Rhenish Prussia, owing to an attempt to enfore the expulsion of the Jesuits. The Government firmly suppressed the disturbance.
