POOK MURDER CASE.

trISBORNB, last night. In tho murder caao tho evidence given shows that tho prisonor who hid been downcast owing to loss by gambling away his own and friend's money loft Aknaku on the road which passes Mataahu on Wednesday niefht. Oa Thursday morning he was in the wliaio at Reporua with his wifo and others, having entered whilet they slopt. The first thing he did on Thursday was to go to his friend and pay the money given to him in trust,
The people of the settlement notised a decided change in his manner, ho being gloomy. They were excited ovor the murder, he novor spoke, When the four persons woro apprehended on suspicion, having passed tho settlement, the prisoner remained in the hut, ho would not see thorn.
A native identified the sheath knife and sheath as Hairas by the Roman numerals VI x, which mean in maori alphabot H. P., the same numerals wero tuttoad oa Hairti Peria body.
The doctor and Mr Skey the Government analysist deposed that tho blood on the clotheß and boots found on the prisoner and on the knifo was the blood of mammals,

Dr. James doposed to tho marks on the skull of the child, Berlin Pook, having been caueod by a blunt instrument or by haltering against a hard substance. Tho case for the prosecution is closed and the court adjourned till the morning.
