Tho situation of tho honso was good, but tho houses in the back streets did more business than the others, because men would not go openly to drink for foar of being seen by their creditors. Mr Deao contended that the building was a part of the hotel, but Mr Lindsay stated that his wife leased the building from Mr Ehronfried, and held that thu valuation ought to bo reduced from £10 to £5, An objection was also held against the valuation of the' Queen's Hotel. Mr Lindsay stated tliat he paid £110s per woek rent. He did not pay £2 per week, nor did he spend £200 in repairs. The house was not entirely free and Mr Ehrenfiied paid for some of the improvements, Did not know the amount of rates paid, Valuation £90 was sustained.

Mr Mulligan, Cornwall Arms Hotel, £86, objector stated that up to 1887 ho paid £2 a week reut, but now dwine; to the bad times it waa reduoud to £1, he asked a reduction to £60. He dmied he would have to pay back rent if times improved, Ho was Mr Ehrenfried's lounnt, but there was nothing in the conditions'of'the , lease absolutely binding him to deal with Mr Ehrenfried exclusively, Hβ had been in the tra'ie for 27 years and had always got good; spirits from Mr Ehrenfried His rates amounted to about £10 and Mr Khrenfried paid for repairs. Valuation reduced to £74.
