TAXI-CAB FATALITY.

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. An inquest on tho wife of Detective Black, who was knocked down by a taxi-cab on November 6 and killed, was held before Mr. W- 0. Riddell (Coroner) to-day. In .giving his verdict tho Coroner said the weight of evidence went to show the car was travelling at a fairly high rate of speed. Tho driver stated ho sounded his horn twice and also slowed down his speed. However, the weight of evidence was against that, and he must accept tho evidence of independent witnessos.who stated the nar did not slacken its speed. ' Tho driver of the car also stated that the accident was duo to deceased going forward, then back and forward again, hut other witnesses had slated Mrs, Black continued on her way, and the weight of evidence was against the driver on this point also. Tho Coroner did not propose t.o bring in any direct finding of negligence on the part of tho driver as tho inquest was simply held to find out what caused death. The verdict would bo that tho deceased, Mabel Black, died as a result of injuries received through being knocked down by a motor driven by Benet Barker Williams on November 6.
