LEPPERTON.
FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT. Sept. 19.—Tho meeting to consider further the district memorial to our fallen soldiers took placo on Saturday evening. Mr. XU W. Atkinson presided I over a moderately woil-attended, moet- ; jug. The chairman explained the reason for tho abandonment of the former scheme, and it would be for that meeting to consider tho next best thing to do. In order to help the meeting to ,oome to some conclusion plans had been obtained of the memorial at Moturoa, and also tho ono to the late Mr. Ambury on Mount Egmonfc. After some discussion the majority present voted for a memorial similar to the one on Mt. Egmont to tho late Mr. Ambury. Mf. Lepper moved, seconded by Mr; Cartwright, that a hearty vote of thanks bo accorded Mr. Grayling for his kind offer to supervise the erection of the memorial.—Carried. Tho approximate cost will he £l2O. Mr. Lcppcr gar© notice of motion, at a special meeting which will be hold shortly, that tho question of tho site of the proposed memorial bo again discussed, he for one not being at all satisfied that tho chosen sit®, namely tho pound corner, was the best one. Personally he preferred tho higher ground near the railway line. It was also decided that one adult representative from each household shall be entitled to vote.' I understand a concert by New Plymouth performers is under way for tho 30th, for the benefit of the public hall. As I. have said before, t"he hall funds were very much starved during the war, so no doubt the hall committee will bo assisted by a good house.
