SOCIAL TO ASSIST FUNDS. A very successful social afternoon was held bn Thursday of last week under tho auspices of tho St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild in aid of tho funds of tho Wellington Presbyterian Orphanage, Despite counter attractions tho attendance was very encouraging and many present forwarded contributions. During the afternoon Mrs, O. Blundell spoke briefly upon the social work ot the Presbyterian Church-and made particular reference to the orphanage branch. Tho annual report of the Wellington Orphanage was read and it disclosed some very inspiring facta. Children of all religious denominations are admitted to tho homo and tho work is growing rapidly. To meet every increased need tho way is opened in a wonderful manner. Apparently all connected with this branch of Christian service are qmto content to go forward in simple faith and trust in tho providence of God. Musical items were rendered by Mrs. M'Gregor and Misses Armstrong and Way. Afternoon tea was provided and all those present spent a very enjoyable afternoon. A number of ladies offered to give an annual donation of 5s to the fund. With special donations and the loos© collection, the total Bum raised was over £l7. The guild desire to tender sincere thanks to all ladies who in any way assisted in making tho effort the success it undoubtedly was.
