FOOTBALL.
The Slur and Tukapa junious met in T’ukckura 'Park on Saturday to decide which team was to hold the Carbine Shield for 1919. Tukapa, who were defeated by 9 to 8, have not been playing a first junior team, ami the team they placed in the field was that which has been competing in the second junior competition, with the addition of a certain amount of stiffening. During the first part of the, game Star had tho advantage. Palwasser scored after making a strong run, and limn failed to convert. A penalty against Tukapa gave Rnrn another opportunity, and. he, gonlcd. Tnkapn then commenced to play up.- and Hart scored a try. which Hooker converted. Another attack ended in Crone crossing; .tlie Star lino, but tho kick did not succeed. The half time scores were thus: Tukapa 8, Star 6. In the second spell neither side could penetrate the defence of the other, and the game was won for Star by Hum kicking a goal from a penalty. Boswell (Tukapn), and Cliff (Star), had to retire hurt. Mr. D. Johnson was referee.
