EXTRAORDINARY CASE

GISBORNE, Sept. 22
A sensational shooting affair occurred ca Saturday night, a. returned soldier named' Alfred EastAvocd and another man named "Whitley saw' a man named Thomas Innes. carrying some timber, which they believed he had taken from the sewerage works in the vicinity. They asked him where ho was taking it to. and Innes, it is alleged, retorted, “If you don’t get away I will shoot you.” and producing a revolver, shot Eastwood in the groin. Passers-by bailed Innes up against the fence and, relieving him of the weapon, detained him till the. police arrived. Innes was arrested on charges of theft and causing actual bodily harm. Eastivood’s injuries, it is believed, will not proi'o serious.
