A SALVAGE CLAIM. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Dec. S. The Supreme Court to-day heard further evidence in the Star of Canada wreck case, wherein J. -1 ■ Niven and Co., Napier, claimed from the Salvage Association of London £7097 in connection with the salvage operations at Gisborne in 1913. Tite suni_ of £I7OO is also claimed as damages lor breach of agreement and for interest. In the alternative tho plaintiffs ask the court to order the valuation of tho salvaged gear, etc. While denying most of tho plaintiffs' allegations, defendants are prepared to pay £4OOO into court in settlement of tho claim. It was announced to-day that the parties had reached an agreement and that tho valuation of the salvaged material remaining in New Zealand should be referred to the registrar, acting with a referee.
