WHANGAMOMONA AND KOHUPATAHI NOTES.

PROU OCR OWN CORRUSPONOBm:. On Wednesday evening in the Public Hall a Sunday school entertainment was held under the auspices of the Presbyterian Mission. There was a large attendance. Mr. A. 11. Norrie, Presbyterian missionary, operated his optical lantern and the, following programme was rendered': Hymn projected on screen, “I’m a Little Pilgrim,’’ sung by littlo Miss Isa Brown; •Lord’s Prayer, bv the scholars; illustrated duet, “Behold Me Standing at the Door,” by Mesdamcs M’Meekin and Conule; views of Soutli Westland’ Glaciers and Russo-J apaneso War; illustrated song, Sir. Fawkne'r; illustrated poem, “Dora,” Miss M’Meekin: hymn, “Oh, come, all ye Faithful,” choir; and the humorous slides, “Ten Little Nigger Boys.” The feature of .the evening was a Srescntation of a Bible to Mr. mid Irs. T. Aylward as a mark of appreciation of their faithful service in connection with tho Sunday school. The Presbyterian missionary, in making tho presentation on behalf of the parents and scholars, referred to the import anco of the work of the Sunday school in moulding the'character of the young and preventing them from lapsing into paganism. Mrs. Aylward was also the recipient of a nicely-bound cony of the Church Praise Hymn Book from the church choir. Mr Fnwkner, choirmaster, made tho presentation, and in a neat' speecli referred to Mrs. Aylward’s devotion and skill as churcli ’ organist and the loss sustained by her departure from the district. Mr. A.ylward suitably responded, and referred to his. feelings of regret at leaving the district where he had made so many friends. Tho meeting concluded by the singing of “God Save the King.” Tho proceeds were in aid of Sunday school funds.., I understand Mr. and Mrs. Aylward intend to reside at Stratford. Mr. Aylward’s successor in business, Mr. Sharp, is reported to be a musical man and interested in church work, being conductor of a churcli choir in Marten and superintendent of a Sunday school The children of the public school are busy practising for the annual concert, which should prove a great success and considerably augment the funds for the annual outing. One of the settlers, Mr. A. Coxhead, has invested in a motor-car and there are rumours of others doing likewise. It is apparent that the profits from the rise in the price of wool are not all going into tho war fund. A number of the prominent men have been served with summonses in connection with the Kohuratahi carnival, the local Presbyterian missionary being amongst the number, his offence being the overcrowding of tho hall at Kohuratahi on tho occasion of the church services: It is reported that he intends to pass the amount on by levying a fine for the future on all absentees. Under these circumstances there is likely to ho a further surplus accruing for the Wounded Soldiers Fund. Mr. Smith, who mot with the accident when working in the bush up tho Prospect Road, has made a remarkable recovery and is back again in the district.
