STRATFORD.

(From Our Resident Agent.),

April 30.—The municipal elections evoked little enthusiasm this year either from the electors or candidates, and until four or live o’clock there was little to show that anything unusual was happening in the neighbourhood of the Town Hall. The numbers went up a Mttle before nine and it Was found that the following had been elected: N. J. King 429 votes, J. H. Thompson 411, J. B. Richards 407, J, W. Boon 403, J. Masters 396, F. G. Arden 374, J. Fredric 370, R. MTC. Morison 309, E. Dingle 350. For the Hospital Board Messrs. J. M’Allister and C. D. Solo were elected.

Of this tenpence, one halfpenny is for reduction of the debt on the buildings. The average number of beds occupied, has increased to 12 and the tendency is towards a further increase. . There is a slight decrease in the average cost of each patient’s maintenance and treatment. The fact is though that hitherto the district has got off remarkably lightly in the matter, and it is only reasonable to anticipate a gradual tendency towards coming into line with other districts. Glorious autumnal weather continues. The Hawera Bowling Club paid the local club a visit to-dav and had a most pleasant afternoon, returning home victors after a very even and exciting contest;
