PETROLEUM

TARANAKI COMPANY'S REPORT.

The direotors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company furnish the following report : — Since the last report the work of pumping but No. 2 bore has been pushed on, although, a considerable amount of trouble has been met with owins; to th© sand in the well preventing the pump working as it should. Owing to this it was found necessary to again draw the pumpf, the barrel of which was found to be badly cut by the sandj and a fresh barrel was put in. This, however, did not prove more successful owing to the large amount of sand in the lower part of the hole, and the pump had to be again withdrawn, when the barrel was found to be choked with sand. A new barrel has been cabled for and should arrive during the week, and it is hoped that when this is working much better results will be met with. A fair amount of oil and silt has been pumped out since the last meeting, and to-day (Friday) the well has flowed about six barrels of oil, and the oil is still at the top of the casing.

The work of putting No. 3 bore in shape for temporarily closing down lias been gone on with as rapidly as possible, and by next week operations at No. 1 bore will probably be resumed.
