A VOYAGE THROUGH THE' UNIVERSE.
PROFESSOR WRAGGE'S LECTURE.
There was a very fair attendance' at tho Theatre Royal last ni^ht when Pro fessor. Clement Wrn.e:p;e opened his New Plymouth season with a lecture entitled "A Voyage through the Universe" The lecture in illustrated by nearly ISO photographs takeu from practically al] the loading observatories in varioup parts of tho world, and also a numbei of sketches. For nearly two hours tIK lecturer, who does not spare himself in the least in speaking, kept his audi: one? keenly interested. Many of the pictures thrown on the screen werr vory beautiful and drew forth hearty appreciation. The milky way, the solar system, the constellations anr 1 t}\9. queen of night, with her mysterious oorniscations and configurations; sun-» rise in the inocn 0 midnight in the moon, .stars upon stars innumerable, etc.. were all brought clearly forward. The series of photographs of *>,he sun showing; sun storms was vory fascinating, and to these the Professor tracecJ the origin of earthquakes. Recently he was at the Wanganui observatory, and from his observations there advisee* his hearers to watch the papers dminfr the next fow weeks, anticipating iresumably another eruption somewhere. Professor Wra^ge's lectures are certainly very much out of the common. Tonight his subject will be on "The Majesty of Creation," when the p lar system will be the focus of ODerations.
