HIGH SCHOOL HONOURS HOARD.
A i the break ing-up ceremony a< the N«.-u Plymouth District High School this afternoon the new Honours Roard was unveiled. This tablet bears the names of the duxes of the past three years: 19(H> Alice W. Rallinger. 1907 lan P. Grant, and 1908 Mary 1«\ Dowling. The shield is of fumed genuine English quartered oak, the beautiful rich grain of which enhances the effect of the bkill of the artisan. The name tablet or shield proper is of German sixteenth century design, having many contorted scrolls finely balanced, the "fiddle" scrolls, on either side, being further enriched by the beautiful akanthos leaf — the motif of all classical embellishments in sculpture. A chaplet of laurel branches, symbolical of victory and glory, encircles the name tablet. This wreath is after the French Renaissance period of design. The knotted ribbon entwining the leaves culminates in a bow at the base, producing a very fine effect. The school shield and motto is applied to the work. The motto, "Et comitate et virtute, et sapientia." is carved in relief in old English type. The names of the duxes are in incised engrossing. The designing and carving was en- J trticted to Mr. R. G. Moverley, of this j town, who is to pc heartily congratu-j lated in producing such a.n admirable piece of work.
