WAIMATE WEST COUNTY COUNCIL.
INITIAL MEETING
The first meeting o f the Waimate West County Council was held at Manaia on Tuesday. There were present Messrs T. A. Bridge, A. J. Hastie, G. C. Glenn, T. MePhillips, G. Mudford. E. Long and J. Cassidy. Mr Hastie was elected Chairman.
It was pointed out that the Waimate Road Board had a bank overdraft of •£300, which with interest due made a total of £3020. Thq assets amounted to £3750.
Mr Archer was offered the position of overseer to the Council at a salary of £150 a year.
Mr Dawson accepted the position of Clerk at £110 a year. It was decided that a rate of ijd should be struck on the ratable value of property in the Waimate, and Kaupokonui Ridings, exclusive of the llanaia Town district.
It was decided that the petition of the Auroa Road settlers to arrange a loan of £1360 for metalling the Auroa Road South sKould be acceded to and that a rate of 17-64 din the £ should be struck to provide interest.
