NEWTON KING'S REPORT.
Mr Newton King reports: f * At Kaponga on Friday, 3rd in»t;, there was a good yarding, mostly weaners and store cows. Bidding was good, And nearly everything was sold at, a satisfactory rate. Weaners made 12s to 16s 6d, 12 to 15-months heifers 245, store pows 26s to 48s, fat and forward £3 los to £4 11s, balls 47s to £3 9b. . Sjt&p. — At Pohukura/the same day nry supplementary Sheep / Fair was well attended. - There was a good yarding, The majority of the entries were- old ewes, for which there waf lit^e demand- A line of2*tooth ewes met ..with little enquiry.' Ail wethers Trsre ( \rell contpeted for and sold well. Lambs' also were all quitted at satisfactory prices. Lambs made 4s'6d'tb 7s 3d, calls 2s to 3s, Smooth wethers 12s 3d to 12s'9d, 2-tooth ewes 11s lid to I2s Id, f .m. ewes 2s 6d to 9s 9d, good rams 13s 4d to 2}guineasV old rams 5s $ %i Stratford on Tuesday there was a big yarding of all classes of stock. The demand and prices for store cattle were on a par with those ruling* recently. A line of dairy cows from Mr. Lehmann, owing to the time of the year, did not appear to best advantage, and the, prices given for them were low. Weaners made^Bs to 15s 6d, 12 to 16-months mixed 25*, steers 36s to 445, 2iyear steers £3 15s, '3 to . 84 forward bullocks £4 19s 6d, t6 £6, 12 to 20-months heifers 26s to 345, store cows 23s to 455, forward 48s 6d fo £3 10s,, .fat and forward £3 ,17s to £4. Mr Behmann's dairy cows made up \o £3 2k fid. On Wednesday at Tataraimaka 1 I held/ a most successful clearing sale on account of Mrs and John Duggan. The cows were a nice lot, in excellent condition, with a few nice Jerseys amongst thenv Although at this time of the year lbw prices are expected, the Values obtained were quite on a par with those given at most of my best spring sales. The horses were a good lot. The prices realised for these, and in fact tor everything else both liv« and dead wore equally satisfactory.. €Md young 'cows in milk and visibly in j calf made from. £7 to £10, shippers* and late calvers £4 5s to £6 10s, aged cows £%.. 5s to £4. ■ The average, for the whole herd of 68 cows, including a few with faulty quarters was £6. A nice line of heifer calves made from 38s to 40s, Jersey calves 50s to 61s, heifers in calf £3 10s to £4, Jersey bull (aged)
£7 ss, draught horse. £37, trap horses £15 to £24*, breeding sows in farrow £1 10s to £3 3s, store pigs 15s, slips: 3s M to 4s, cattle dog £2 2s 6d, milk catis 12s to 245, gig £17 10s, dray £10 ,/JOs, disc harrows £6 15s.
