STRATFORD.
(Fbom Otm RtsibENT Agent.)
January 17. — We 'are used to climatic vagaries, but rarely experience so sudden and great a change in temperature as between yesterday t and to-day. Yesterday the heat was almost overpowering, but to-day wacmV«inderclothing is necessary and an overcoat not undesirable. Very little rain has fallen, however, not enough to do any good, and there- a^e no signs of more. The joint' committee of employers t and workers under the Taranaki dairy factories' industrial agreement met last, evening and fixed the rate of pay foi* overtime. The agreement seems to be working satisfactorily. . A contract has been let for a new i *Bite for the Stratford Mountain House, also a hor3e-paddock. At tho meeting of the Technical School "Committee the chairman, Mr Monkhouse, handed in his resignation. It was received with genuine regret i and references to Mr Monkhouse's services to the cause of education generally and, in patioular to manual and technical instruction in r Stratford. The Swimming Club is going very strong. Thirty-five new members were admitted on Wednesday evening. Water polo is being practised.
