HARBOUR LOAN SCHEME,

Mr Newton King's scheme for raising 'a new loan, for the improvement of the New Plymouth harbour, was to ,have been considered at the Harbour Board meeting yesterday. Mr. King, however, asked the permission of the Board to have his scheme embodied in a draft bill by the Board's solicitors. He thought this course would save a great deal of time and facilitate discussion, as the members would have everything before them. .Mr 'Maxwell' did not think the Board, could seriously consider Mr King's scheme urail it had been put into in which it was likely to go before r Parliament. He agreed.. with Mj King's suggestion, and moved that the authority asked for should be granted. Mr Price seconded. The Chairman expressed the hope that the Bill, when drafted, would meet j with th^o unanimous .approval of tho ; members. If this was not so, they ! could not expect it to pass; tho House. • Mr Thomson said he/had been returned a member of the Board to oppose any loan bill, and he therefore entered his protest: • The motion was carried. In thanking the Board, Mr King sa^d he would endeavour to get the Bill drafted so that it would reach the members of the Board several days before next meeting. '
